San Francisco Airport - Every Boy's (and Girl's) Dream

Looking for a fun and inexpensive day trip? A trip to the airport is one of my favorite past times with the kids while giving Michelle a few hours to herself. The Caltrain will pick you up anywhere from San Francisco to San Jose and drop you off at the Millbrae Bart Station. Within minutes of being dropped off, a Bart train will take you to San Francisco Airport (SFO). Inside SFO, there are a host of things to do:
  • Take the air train. For A and Z, riding the Caltrain, Bart and an air train all in one day is a little bit of heaven here on earth.
  • Grab some won ton noodles at Harbor Village Kitchen which are reasonably priced for airport food and quite tasty if you can pry the bowl away from their little fingers.
  • Take a nap (yeah right!) at the Berman Reflection room.
  • Check out the San Francisco Aviation Library & Museum tucked away in the back of the international terminal (pictured below).

Before we go, I always have the, "you got to use your listening ears and don't go with strangers" talk since there are a lot of people at the airport, but on the weekends it's actually relatively quiet. It's also a great place to go on a rainy day since there's lots of room to run around.

Technical Photography Note: 1/13 sec at f/2.8, ISO 400 on a Canon G9 (point and shoot). This camera is great, but it's pretty much unusable (for a color print) beyond ISO 400. So while the ground level perspective accommodates a view of the airplanes on the ceiling, it also allowed me to steady the camera against the floor obviating the need for a higher ISO. As for post-processing, just a bit of noise reduction and I upped the saturation of the blues.
