Up, Up and Away

This weekend, we're going to see Up. It's been a tough week so that concludes this post and my recommendation for what you can do with your children. Have a great weekend!

Subsequent Note: Having seen the movie Up, I can say it's consistent with Pixar's reputation of raising the bar on animation and telling a good story in the process. However, there are a couple things worth noting before taking your kids:
  • Like Monsters vs. Aliens, the 3D glasses are fitted for adults. If you like 3D, bring some tape or something to help keep the glasses on your kids.
  • The wife dies (doesn't ruin any of the plot) which takes some explaining. I'm not really sure why nearly every Disney movie has a broken family or deceased family member in it.
  • There are some scary dogs and otherwise frightening moments. A couple of kids ran out of the theatre. It's not violent or even gory, but the movie has some adult themes with respect to dealing with death, scary villains and the like.
  • While the humor appeals to children, it's not quite as engaging as other Pixar movies in this respect. Aidan had no comment on whether he liked the movie which was highly unusual.
  • The movie is 96 minutes when most animated flicks are 90 minutes or less. In our case, the 6 minutes, plus the 15+ minutes of movie trailers, put us over the edge.
Again, a very moving movie for adults, but I'm not sure I would have taken a 2 and 5 year-old if I had known more about the story line.
