I have to admit, part of me wants to go just to take cool pictures. I'd include a picture, except, despite being a native Californian, I've never been to this one of God's glorious creations.

This Weekend Go To Yosemite
Actually, it's probably a horrible idea. The kids are in year round school which is better for learning and as a side benefit, makes it easier to vacation on the off season. So we're looking at everything from cruises to a road trip to Yosemite. The former is still too pricey for this photographer but camping with the kids has a certain appeal. Unfortunately, even though it's the off season, Yosemite seems to be a natural wonderland version of Disneyland and accommodations are a bit sparse. Has anyone done the tent cabin thing there? The notion of waking up in the middle of the night to escort Aidan to the potty doesn't sound all that appealing. Nor does stuffing all our food into a locker to prevent bears from eating it. I mean, what are we supposed to do with the juicy morsel we call our daughter?

We've done the tent cabin thing -- but before kids. As long as you didn't have to turn the heater on, I think it would be fine (and if your sleeping bags are warm enough, you definitely should not need the heater) (oh, and I don't like the heater b/c I don't think it's really safe with the little ones who will of course try to stick their fingers in it/stick camping gear in it) (or maybe that's just Shiloh???). Anyways, I think it would be fun! And if you go over the weekend, there's a cute little church in the valley that some good friends of mine go to; I can hook you up with them for details. :)
Oh, and can you just let Aidan pee outside the cabin?? That's what I would do... ;)
The fact that you are a Native Californian and have never been to Yosemite is sooooo tragic! It is really, really one of the most amazing places in the world!!! Steve and I went on our honeymoon, and it was magical-everything was covered in snow, and hardly any people! This time of the year should be pretty good though too-much better than the middle of summer, where you have way to many people lined up in their cars trying to drive through all the glorious majesty (while you are inhaling their exhaust). Steve and I stayed in some privately owned condos within the park, which were actually quite reasonably priced-that might be what I would recommend for your first adventure into the wilds =)
Emily - it didn't occur to me that the heaters would just be space heaters, though that makes sense. Aidan's potty workaround is duly noted.
Wendy - The condo thing is what we're leaning on regardless of whether we do Yosemite, Tahoe or some other natural wonderland that I haven't been to as a Californian.
