Zany Zoe, Take 1

When Aidan was born we did a whole series of Agent Aidan videos. The idea was to ship a DVD (like a Netflix) for our "Christmas card". The film's plot (Aidan being a secret agent) would provide entertainment, but would also provide an update on what our kids could do and as well as what we were up to, to our family and friends. The following scene was from the two of them driving off to infiltrate Daddy's headquarters after failing to get the stroller and child backpack unfolded.

While the last video introduced Zoe as Aidan's sidekick, Michelle and I have come to believe that Zoe should be the star, rather than co-star, of her own video during this fun stage of her life. We also believe that this will be the last production quality film we put together before we both keel over from exhaustion. So born is the next film which shall be called "Zany Zoe" - at least until a better name is found anyway.

Last year's video was an experiment in still motion video back before SLRs actually shot video so I could take advantage of the lens I had and utilize a narrow depth of field for many of the shots. Now that that is all the rage, I figure we'll try the opposite tack - filming the entire movie using two iPhones while achieving many of the cinematic effects moviegoers expect. Over the next few months, you'll get a behind the scenes look at why I ultimately chose to go this route (hint: the kids consume all my money) and all the work that goes into making a film (much of which translates into how I do photography). Next up, the storyboard...
