Broken Stuff in a Broken World

This week was a reminder of the broken world we live in, or more precisely that things break. For once, the kids are not to blame, but here's a quick tally of the collateral damage:

  • My iPhone met an early demise. Texting while driving is clearly bad, so I probably should have realized that carrying Zoe and contacting clients at the same time was a recipe for disaster. I lost my balance and had to choose to drop one of them... The phone is fully functional if you don't count the fact that I was slicing my fingers and embedding glass in them as I tried to call or text clients.
  • My Canon 5D broke in the ninth hour of a wedding like a kid trying to stay awake past bedtime. Fortunately, my second carried me through the evening.
  • My 580 EX II went out of commission at the aforementioned wedding. At first I thought it was the lack of sustenance for the better part of the day while shlepping 30 pounds of gear, but there was another reason why some the photographs were overexposed. Turns out the flash keeps blasting everything at full power (regardless of the setting) like a kid on a sugar high.
  • My 35 mm lens hood snapped. Not sure how, but a bunch of springs just popped out during the bride and groom shots. It was like having a toddler who didn't nap and just unraveled.
It's as Gandalf says in the Lord of the Rings about the new day - that a great shadow will depart, the sad will become unsad and the broken fixed. Till then we have our kids to keep us happy, weddings to celebrate (congratulations J & B) and the ultimate love above all else.

Ugh - this all happened in one week?! I'm so sorry!

I'm no probability expert, but I would think that the next year should be calamity-free for you.

If there is a bright side here, at least your iPhone broke a few weeks before the next release. Now you'll HAVE to get a new one.

Problem Solved!

Cheers,
Anne

Yeah, I thought it'd be suspicious if I dropped my iPhone after the new iPhone announcement :)

Juice - original (and for what I do, better) Mark I. It's currently at the Canon "please rip me off" Camera repair facility.
